President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, promises to slash $2 trillion in government spending. Musk cites outdated IT systems, while Ramaswamy suggests drastic federal workforce cuts. However, FedNewsNetwork highlight obstacles, noting that similar past initiatives, such as Reagan’s Grace Commission and Clinton’s reinventing government efforts, struggled to gain congressional approval or achieve intended outcomes.

Despite bold rhetoric, DOGE’s proposals will face significant challenges, including resistance from Congress and agencies and the unintended consequences of workforce reductions, such as increased contractors requiring management, another area of endless challenge for government.
