Push for in-office work grows as employees continue to desire flexibility
Amazon and other employers, including the Washington Post, are pushing for a return to the office, signaling a shift away from the hybrid work structures that became common during the pandemic. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently announced a move to five-day, in-office expectations, joining institutions like the University of Texas and Nebraska's state government in reducing remote work options (Seattle Business Journal). According to a KPMG survey, 79% of CEOs expect a full return within three years, and 86% intend to reward in-office employees
However, reports suggest that hybrid work enhances retention and job satisfaction, with 65% of employees rating flexibility as essential, according to a Conference Board report. While some workers value in-person collaboration, a significant portion prefer flexible roles, with Eagle Hill Consulting reporting that 50% would consider leaving if flexibility is reduced.
