The Project on Government Oversight (POGO) has submitted recommendations for the Sixth U.S. Open Government National Action Plan, urging bold reforms to enhance government transparency and accountability. As a nonpartisan watchdog, POGO emphasizes the need for a strong ethics executive order, improved Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) implementation, and enhanced federal spending transparency. The incoming Trump administration is likely not to be receiptive.

Other priorities include increased investment in the National Archives, greater public access to legal opinions from DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel, expanded whistleblower protections, and reaffirming that criminal laws apply to all federal officials, including the president. POGO also advocates for reforms to prioritize public health, safety, and democracy in federal rulemaking.

POGO commended the government’s openness to public input, emphasizing that these reforms are critical to building trust and accountability.
