Egypt fires PR canon at One Mile at a Time, own foot, over criticism of Cairo airport
One Mile at a Time is a favorite read of the travel hacker community. Blogger Ben Schlappig brings warmth, humor, and intelligent reviews of aviation products. His recent criticism of Cairo International Airport ignited a firestorm from Egypt’s government, which only highlights Schlappig’s critcisms.
Further, Egypt bizarrely refuted OMAAT’s claims with CCTV footage and accused Schlappig of deliberately tarnishing the airport’s reputation. Regular readers know, he frequently positioned at Cairo for international business-class flights, because it generally has low fares. His offending post detailed staff rudeness, chaos, and persistent tipping requests, based on his multiple visits. Egypt’s Minister of Aviation rejected these allegations as baseless, publishing a detailed rebuttal and emphasizing the airport’s adherence to international standards.
